Reliance Jio, India’s leading telecom operator, has showcased its latest innovation at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2023 in New Delhi. The company has unveiled JioGlass, a pair of smart glasses that use mixed reality (MR) technology to create immersive experiences for users.

What is JioGlass?

JioGlass is a wearable device that weighs only 75 grams and has a sleek metallic frame with two lenses. It can be connected to a smartphone via a USB-C cable, which also serves as a power source for the device. The company is also said to provide support for wireless connectivity in the future.

JioGlass can turn the smartphone screen into a virtual display of up to 100 inches, creating a screen that seems like it’s floating right in front of the user’s eyes. Each eye gets a 1080p display. The device also has a detachable flap, which once removed, allows the user to enjoy augmented reality (AR) content. With the flap on, the user can see virtual reality (VR) content.

The device also has trackpad controls to adjust volume or virtual screen brightness. It has two speakers on the sides, positioned over the ears, and supports spatial audio. It also has a microphone to let the user attend voice calls or interact with voice assistants.

What can JioGlass do?

JioGlass can be used for various purposes, such as entertainment, education, gaming, shopping, and productivity. The device can stream content from platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar, and more. It can also connect to gaming consoles or PCs for immersive gaming on a large screen.

The device can also be used for learning and collaboration. It can support 3D holographic video calls, where the user can see and interact with the other person in a realistic way. It can also support 2D video calls with multiple participants. The device can also access various XR apps from the JioImmerse XR Store on the smartphone.

The device can also be used for shopping and browsing. It can show 3D models of products or places and let the user interact with them using gestures or voice commands. It can also provide information and reviews about products or places using AR overlays.

What are the versions and prices of JioGlass?

Reliance Jio will launch two versions of JioGlass – one for consumers and one for enterprises. The consumer version will be aimed at providing entertainment and personal use cases, while the enterprise version will be focused on providing business and professional use cases.

The company has not revealed the price and availability details of JioGlass yet. However, it is expected that the device will be launched later this year or early next year. The company has also announced that it will provide early access to JioGlass for select users who register on its website.
