The word is Bramha and the practice of music is the practice of God. But in the last few decades, Saraswati-sons called writers have corrupted most of the language and changed the music into noise. The first season of the web-series ‘Bandish Bandits’ released on Amazon Prime Video brings out the confrontation between Sanatan and the present. With a beautiful love story, Bandish Bandits is a purely Indian story. The web-series will be liked by those viewers, who are looking for good and attractive content on the OTT platform.

Bandish Bandits had high expectations from those who watched the trailer rewind over and over again. The stately Havelis of Rajputana. The clash between the master of music and the disciples. The new generation goes beyond the restrictions of the vocals to create restrictions that can accommodate whatever is good outside, bright colors, vibrant performances, everything creates the ideal conditions for the setup of a rock musical.
Story-Line: The 10-episode ‘Bandish Bandits’ story begins in Jodhpur. Where Jodhpur’s music emperor Radhe Mohan Rathore (Nasiruddin Shah) is engaged in the service of classical music with strict rules. According to him, Hindustani classical music requires discipline and hard practice. He teaches music to the students every day, but he does not offer music programs for corporate companies. Till now, he has taught ‘ganda bandhan’ to seven people while training music. He now has high hopes from his grandson Radhey (Ritvik Bhowmik). Radhey rehearses music for several hours every day, along with his college education. Meanwhile, Tamanna Sharma (Shreya Chaudhary), daughter of Harshvardhan Sharma (Rituraj Singh), comes to Jodhpur in search of music from Mumbai.

Raised in pampered, pop sensation Tamanna Sharma has millions of followers on social media. Tamanna has 3 hit song contracts with a music company. When the second song fails, she comes to Jodhpur in search of desi beats. On her father’s advice, she performs music concerts. Radhe arrives with his friend Kabir (Rahul Kumar). Where Tamanna and Radhe meet. Tamanna makes fun of him, Radhe sings a song, and he immediately recites the song to his grandfather in the same classical ragas. Pandit Radhe Mohan Rathore is happy and announces his ‘Ganda Bandhan’ on the next morning. But due to Tamanna Radhe didn’t reach on right time in the morning, Panditji gets angry because of that. But then he gives atonement test and Pandit ji does his ‘Ganda Bandhan’.

Review: Bandish bandits with 10 episodes of 40–40 minutes on average keep their adventures with all the ups and downs. Here in Jodhpur (Rajasthan), Radhey (Ritwik Bhowmik) was learning classical singing under strict discipline from his grandfather Sangeet Pandit Radhe Mohan Rathore (Naseeruddin Shah), while in Mumbai, pop sensation Tamanna Sharma (Shreya Chaudhary) who was pampered a lot by her father’s, who has millions of followers on social media. Tamanna has a contract for three hit songs with a music company and the second one got flopped. She reaches Jodhpur in search of Desi Beats and meets Radhe here. Meanwhile, Radhe prepares to sing along with Tamanna in an effort to save the house from an economic crisis. Love flourishes between the two. But to hide from the family, he also films the song with Tamanna by applying a face mask, and people of music company like it. But Radhey’s father Rajendra (Rajesh Tailang) and mother Mohini (Sheeba Chaddha) and Pandit Ji decide to marry him with Sandhya (Ridha Chaudhary), which gives a twist in the story. Then this marriage breaks down.

On the other hand, Digvijay (Atul Kulkarni), son of Panditji’s first wife, is also a great musician. There is a confrontation between the two. Here Radhe means that before the opening of the masked man, there are many layers in the story. Fear of Rathore’s mansion being losing out of hand due to bank debt, Digvijay’s love story of Radhey and Tamanna in the midst of his father’s challenge to Sangeet Samrat’s hideout also continues to hide. So the same family is scattered and united. Bandish Bandits Secret is completely different from the film scenes in the name of music like Secret Super Star, Rock-on, and Rockstar. In this, the love of music is strong like Baiju Bawra, Abhimaan, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and Sur.

Such a story based on Hindustani classical song and music has come after a long time. Music is the beat of Bandish Bandits and musician trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have played a very important role behind the scenes. Great credit goes to the success of the web-series. After a long time, these three have given good music to the ears, which is not noisy. In particular, the classical side of music has emerged very beautifully.  Sajan Bin, Lab Aab, Thunder Rain, Padho Mhare des are fantastic, separation songs spread the silence in the end. The music assures that the melody which the Bollywood people and music companies have destroyed can be stirred once they get in the right land.

Writing: Films like ‘Rock On’ or ‘Rockstar’, ‘Juban’ have been made about music in Bollywood. One of the most unique is the web series ‘Bandish Bandits’, which brings the best story of Hindustani classical music to the whole world. It has strong notes of music along with love. This is the beat of the music. A lot of hard work has been done on its story and script. The struggle to save Rathore’s mansion and the musical Gharana continues in a balanced manner with the love story of the characters standing on two contrasting melodies of the music. The unity message of the family is threaded into the story in such a way that it is preached from anywhere.

In this web series, some obscene dialogues of Kabir, Arghya, and Tamanna are definitely written, such dialogues should have been avoided. If the author had paid attention to this, children could have learned something by watching this web series score.

” घर बच गया, अब घराना बचाने की जरूरत है.”
and
”एक कलाकार का धर्म होता है दो दिलों को मिलाना.”जिसे संबाद बहुत बेहतरीन बने हैं.

Direction: As a director, Anand Tiwari has previously directed films like ‘The President is Coming’, ‘Love on Square Foot’, ‘Ticket to Bollywood’ and some web series, but Anand Tiwari’s directing web series ‘Bandish Bandits’ establishes him as one of the best directors, but some episodes should have been tightened on the editing table.

Director Anand Tiwari deserves congratulations for presenting the power of the ‘ragas’ of classical music with a beautiful story. So at the same time, he has beautifully presented the musical collision of two opposite tunes. The union of East and West has also been beautifully crafted, due to which there is also a passion for music.

Music: Composer Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy has decorated this web series with the best music. Their music’s contribution to its success of the web series cannot be ignored. ‘Sajan Bin’, ‘Lab Par Aaye’, ‘Garaj Baras’, ‘Padharo Mhare Des’, Mori Arj Suno Girdhari Aaj Virah songs overwhelm the people. ‘Thumri’, which has disappeared from films, is also included in it. Gives a pleasant feeling. With this, Thumri enchants the song “Lav Pe Aye”.

Acting: Half the success of the director is decided when he selects the actors who do justice to the characters. Anand Tiwari has selected the appropriate actors for each character. Nasiruddin Shah has revived the character of Sangeet emperor Pandit Radhe Mohan Rathore, who is disciplined and adamant on his principles. Ritvik Bhowmick in Radhey’s character, Shreya Chaudhary in Tamannaa’s character, Atul Kulkarni in Digvijay’s character, Sheeba Chadha in Mohini’s character also performed very well.

Cameraman Shriram Ganapathi has not only beautifully captured the palaces in Jodhpur city but also portrayed them as a character.

IMDB Rating: 8.5/10

Exactly it’s absolutely wonderful n amazing tribute to Hindustani classical music without actually demeaning contemporary pop Bollywood music stuff….Just watched it and It has some great performances and a brilliant music score from the evergreen trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy Sir..

Ujjawal Pathak

superrr..!! loved it totally.

well formed musical web series. very well connected story about two people from different background one from pure classical other from pop music, their inspiration about music, challenge they are facing and trying to overcome their weakness. Sooo inspiring to see how important and same time difficult is to learn and possess classical music.

Sid k

Nasiruddin Shah played well but I don’t know why director gave such a short role for the real talent like Atul Kulkarni.
‘Katyar Kaljat Ghusli’ a Marathi tribute to classical music is way ahead than this one.
